MORE WORDS

English Writers' Help

As I mentioned before Professor Curzon likes English texting acronyms, such as:

JK = Just Kidding

TTYL = Talk to You Later

DK = Don't know

WRT = With Respect To (?)

She also likes the acronyms that have numbers like GR8 = Great

When I began to read and pronounce words, I noticed the brand name "7UP."  I couldn't figure it out.  Was it pronounced "SEVUP?"  This bothered me for years.  How could an English word contain letters?

BTW: would you have known the above-used words without apostrophes?

dont = don't

couldnt = couldn't

And what about these words?

isnt = isn't

wasnt = wasn't

The good professor says we may not be using a lot of apostrophes in the future.

Palindromes

These are words or phrases that read the same backwards and forwards.

You remember the one about Napoleon:

"Able was I ere I saw Elba."

Here a few gems from Richard Lederer:

"Was it a car or a cat I saw?" (Get glasses!)

"Too hot to hoot." (Owl lament)

"Trapeze part."  (Best part of the circus.)

"Dr Awkward," (New Intern.)

Autocorrect

Professor Curzon pointed to a website where messages subjected to "funny" autocorrects are shown.  It would give you an e4xample, but most are mildly obscene.  However, if you are interested, go to "autocorrectfail.org."
