 GENIUS!

To paraphrase a definition from dictionary.com:

"A person with exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc."

If you ask someone to name a genius, they would probably say "Einstein" first and "Da Vinci" next.

And what about Herr Mozart (my pick)?

IQ (INTELLIGENZQUOTIENT)

(The term IQ was coined in 1912 by William Stern.)

I wonder what these persons' IQ would be.  Perhaps the IQ ratings would not go high enough.

Psychologist Alfred Binet felt that intelligence "is influenced by many factors, changes over time, and has to be compared to children with similar backgrounds."  So, to try to address these issues, in 1916 he developed the Binet-Simon IQ Test.

Stanford University became interested in this test, and Professor Lewis Terman revised it to reflect American test takers.  The revised test was called the "Stanford-Binet IQ Test" and it quickly became a standard for American schools.

The Stanford-Binet test scores are rated on a "Bell Curve," with the average being 100.

I've written how my 4th Grade principal accused me of cheating on the Stanford-Binet IQ Test and assigned me the average IQ of 100.

As an Airman in Europe, I took a special test. The results indicated that my average IQ was wrong, and my supervisors suggested that I should go to College when my Air Force career ended.  I did so.

SUGGESTION

Don't blindly accept what your child's IQ score is. Mistakes are made.  Visit the school and discuss the score with the person who administered the test.

MENSA   AND   INTERTEL

To get into MENSA, I took three IQ tests.  Two scored in the 2% range, that allowed me to be a member of MENSA; the other test scored in the 1% range, that qualified me for INTERTEL.

As a member of these organizations, I have met or communicated with hundreds of interesting people, on many different subjects.

I highly recommend that you take a MENSA entrance IQ test. You may be pleasantly surprised.

OTHER IQ TESTS

In 1955, David Wechsler developed the WAIS (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale).  I took this test, as well as: The California Test of Mental Maturity.

IS IQ INHERITED?

Unbeknownst to each other, my brother Joe and I took an experimental IQ test.  He in Ohio; me in Maryland.  Remarkably, we both got the same score!

What have I learned over the years?

01. Colleges and technical schools consider IQ scores.
02.  Some employers consider IQ scores.
03.  Some IQ scorers make mistakes that could mess up a person's plans for the future.
04.  Some folks with high IQ scores make good friends.
05.  Some folks with high IQ scores are dumb when it comes to everyday necessity.
06.  You are probably much smarter than you think.  Take a test, it might change your life as it did mine.
