"Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow...
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made us mellow
Deep in December, our hearts should remember
And follow, follow, follow"
This song, written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, was first performed in Act One of the 1960 musical "The Fantasticks."
As I've aged, I've found that my "near-term" memory has gotten hazy, while my childhood memories are still vivid; as though they happened yesterday.
Ask my beautiful daughter, Diane, who handles the little bit of my finances that I haven't spent yet. We will discuss some important money matter, and I will promptly forget what we talked about.
But elephants never forget... or so it's said.
SMIRKY ELEPHANT
"I can remember a hell of a lot more than you can!"
LISTENING IN
"Dear, I think there's an elephant in the room."
"I do love my shower!"
.............................................................................................................................
Go, and remember some more!
