Bad Words from Mr. Trump? AARP Meeting; PIVOT Organization; Happy Carnivores; Carroll Singers; Old Crybaby

Well.. it's finally here.  The October Surprise... but it's for Donald Trump, and its a taped recording as he brags about his actions to and about women.  Very vulgar locker room talk, except that people outside of high school don't really talk like that any more.  This will probably be the final straw for his candidacy.  How can Rep Ryan or other biggies in the Republican Party stand beside him and not be branded with his feelings about women?

I would expect that he will now not be willing to go into a town hall type environment and let himself be subjected to the questions that his potty-mouth remarks will generate.

AARP Meeting

Let's change to a nicer subject.  Today, the Carroll County Chapter of AARP met for its October luncheon.  Early, we heard about the Pivot organization.  They are the folks who will get you back in proper balance.  They brought a piece of diagnostic equipment and measured one of our volunteers.

Balance consists of the use of the eyes, the legs and the ears.  The volunteer found that he had a small balance problem when he was not walking on firm ground.  Enlightening.

One of the presenters was a lady who served with me on a volunteer health group over twenty years ago.  She remembered me, but I forgot to give her one of my "Joe Vaughan Fan Club" pens.  Another opportunity for fame was lost!

Lunch, served by the American Legion auxiliary was delicious.  At least the beef was.  Lots and lots of tasty meat that could be cut with your fork.  I went back for seconds, as did lots of other folks.

For entertainment, the Carroll Singers gave us some marvelous choral music.  A lot of their music was of a joyous spiritual nature.  Just like being in a Fundamentalist church on Sunday morning..

"Oh, sinners, let's go down to the river to pray."

"Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, than all the Angels in the sky."

A cellist played "the swan" from the Parade of the Animals.  He played it from memory and he did it extremely well.   (tears #1)

The chorus sang "Memory" from Cats.  (tears #2)

The chorus sang a 911-worded version of : "Homewood Bound."  (tears #3)

The cellist  played the beautiful Panis Angelicus(tears #4)

Panis angelicus
Fit panis hominum
Dat panis coelicus
Figurin terminum
O res mirabilis!
Manducat Dominum
Pauper, pauper
Servus et humilis
Pauper, pauper
Servus it humilis

The angel's bread becomes the bread of man
The heavenly bread ends all symbols
Oh, miraculous thing!  The body of the Lord will nourish
The poor, poor, and humble servant
The poor, poor, and humble servant

The chorus sang: Edelweiss.  (tears #5)

"Oh, won't you sit down!  Lord, I can't sit down, I just got to heaven and I want to look around."

Finally, "America the Beautiful" and "God bless America." (tears #6)

Ok, Joe... what's with all those "tears"... well, as I get older, I get teary a lot... especially when a song or musical rendition triggers a memory.... and almost everything this musical group did, brought back memories, both good and sad.  This was great catharsis.  I felt so good after their performance.

So now, once again, I've let you know what a baby I am.  If I live a lot longer, it will probably get worse.  I'll probably blubber when I look through the telephone book.
