Ahhhh! It's back to warm Spring again. Feels nice.
ATTENTION! Mothers' Day is coming fast upon us. Do you have something prepared for the mothers in your family? If not, here are some suggestions from Sunday's New York Times:
o Vintage Pink Typewriter with Fabulous 1950's Booklet. $725. (Similar to one I had around that time that I paid $39. for.)
o Sabrina Original Movie Poster, Linen Backed, 1954. $2,200. (with Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden. Wow!)
o Arvin 664A Restored Antique Radio, 1947. Candy red, with workable AM. $695. (My Aunt Marjorie had one of these next to her bed on Ash Street in New Bedford. When I was around 6 years old, she let me listen to Saturday kids' programs on it. And.. on Sunday, I would try to stay awake for the Lux Presents Hollywood presentations. I never could. Now I can hear them on WAMU FM, on their Sunday Night old time radio presentations.)
o Personalized Beer Carrier and Tub. $64.95. (More my price range. And if your mother doesn't care for it, you would certainly like to have it. So, just personalize it with the last name.)
Speaking of Mother... how about this from Mother Jones magazine for May/June 2016:
The once-great state of Kansas.
May 22, 2012 Conservative Governor Sam Brownback signs a tax-cut bill over his Party's objections, slashing school funding.
March 7, 2014 The Kansas Supreme Court orders the legislature to devote more money to low-income districts and asks lower courts to reexamine school spending.
April 17, 2014 Brownback grumpily signs a "bill" that strips the state Supreme Court of some of its vital powers.
February 18, 2015 A chief district judge files a lawsuit arguing that Brownback's "bill" is unconstitutional.
June 4, 2015 Brownback signs a budget for the courts that has a self-destruct button in case any court rules against his "bill." Take court action and then you get no budget for the court.
September 2, 2015 A District Court finds that Brownback's "bill" is unconstitutional. So Brownback defunds the state courts.
September 3, 2015 Now we have a constitutional crisis.
September 4, 2015 Four judges file a suit challenging the constitutionality of the defunding action.
September 18, 2015 From now until December, lots of political skullduggery.
December 23, 2015 The Kansas Supreme Court finds Brownback's "bill" unconstitutional and dares him to shut down the courts.
February 8, 2016 Brownback gives in. The judicial budget is preserved.
February 22, 2016 The Kansas Supreme Court threatens to shut down schools if the state does not appropriate more money to them. But, lawmakers pass a new budget ignoring the ruling. If the legislature does not come up with the money by the end of June, schools may not open in August.
March 22, 2016 The Kansas Senate passes a bill that would let lawmakers impeach state judges for "discourteous conduct" and other "grievous" transgressions. This would take place if the Supreme Court continues to challenge Brownback.
Whew! Sounds like a lot of fun. Yes, it seems to me that the Governor is attempting to take control of the judiciary. Isn't that what dictators do? I'll have to watch this situation more closely in the future.
And then we have Mr. Trump
Mother Jones Magazine also quoted Donald Trump's theory of marriage success:
"When a man has to endure a woman who is not supportive and complains constantly about his not being home enough or not being attentive enough, he will not be very successful unless he is able to cut the cord."
OK OK Let's reread Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew.. and also, watch the wonderful interpretation by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the movie of the same name.
And don't give me that BS about Sir Francis Bacon writing Shakespeare's plays because Bill could not have been so knowledgeable about Italian locations.
When Donald got married, did he say those two little words? Well, he probably made it into four little words, just like all millionaires and billionaires say or write out on a deposition: "If you don't nag." My two words were.... "I do" or maybe "Yes Dear"... as the joke goes.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!
Here are a few items from Saturday's show:
Keep Clean, Men!
Apparently, Iceland has warm air machines in it's mens rooms. They are accompanied by a very explicit sign explaining how one can use them to dry one's scrotum. They need to put an explanatory sign up next to the bidets too... at least for the education of Americans visiting their country.
Unhand me, human!
Somebody has come out with a book stating that dogs hate to be hugged. You know, he just may have a point there. Have you ever looked at a dog being almost strangled by its owner? The dog thinks that the human is trying to injure it, and only the thought that the strangler is the person who feeds him, keeps him from growling and biting.
Dead End?
A Manchester (England?) new bicycle lane is very nice except that it runs right into a lamp post. This reminds me of when we moved into the Village. We had a nice walk leading out from the front door.. right into a tree that was planted right at the end, so that if one was not paying attention, one could (and did) get a nasty bump on the head.

See ya!
